Chiefs are Indispensable in Governance – Sam George

Hon. Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram has emphasized the significance of chiefs in governance, stating that they cannot be removed from the governance structure.

Speaking in relation to Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill that was presented before parliament, Hon. George highlighted the involvement of chiefs in the formulation of the bill.

“Chiefs were actively involved in the bill. I personally engaged with the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi because they are the custodians of our culture. It is not possible to remove chiefs from governance as they are even recognized by the constitution,” he asserted on Amammere ne Amanie with Kwaku Frimpong on July 8.

However, he acknowledged that the level of respect given to chiefs has diminished in recent times, attributing it to the conduct of certain chiefs. He stated that the way chiefs present themselves reflects how they will be perceived and treated.

“The respect and reverence accorded to chiefs are influenced by their own actions. Chiefs must engage in activities that bring respect to the stool,” he remarked.
