Consumer Protection Agency Accuses British Airways Of Charging “Illegal” Fee For Ticket

The Consumer Protection Agency Ghana (CPAG) has described as “illegal” and “ridiculous” a US$50 extra fee charged by British Airways (BA) and Standard Chartered Bank for tickets.

“The BA and Standard Chartered Bank have decided to charge $50 for paying of your tickets at their branches. This is an illegal practice and we are urging BA to stop immediately,” a statement from the Agency said.

According to CPAG, the BA has instructed the Bank to charge the new fee in addition to the ticket fee.

“Per our investigation, BA has instructed Standard Chartered Bank to charge this ridiculous extra charge of $50 on top of your ticket price.”

It holds that passengers should not be burdened with extra costs from an agreement between the two entities.

The agency is willing to aid customers who have been charged the fee to be reimbursed.

“Anybody that has paid this extra $50 to Standard Chartered Bank should not hesitate in contacting CPA for us to enable them to get a refund.”
