NPP Opens Nomination For Presidential Primary Tomorrow
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will open nominations for its Presidential primary on Friday, May 26, 2023.
The timetable for the much-awaited primary was first announced in April by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party after a meeting.
Prospective candidates seeking to run for the presidency on ticket of the NPP can obtain nomination forms from the office of the General Secretary at the party’s headquarters at Asylum down.
The office, the party noted, will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on weekdays until the final day of nomination.
So far, several individuals have expressed their interest in running for the party’s nomination, including Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Minister of Trade; Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Agriculture; and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Other contenders include Boakye Agyarko, former Minister of Energy; Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Kwabena Agyepong, former Presidential Spokesperson and General Secretary of the party; Joe Ghartey, former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; Francis Addai-Nimoh, former MP for Mampong; and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, former Minister of State.
The deadline for picking nomination forms is June 24, with a non-refundable fee of GHC50,000.
The primary will be held in November.
“The party is determined to hold a free, fair, transparent and peaceful Presidential primary election and urges all stakeholders to make this a reality,” a statement from the NPP dated May 24 said.
Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is through with its primary and has given former President John Dramani Mahama the mandate.
