Nigerian Singer Seun Kuti Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer

Nigerian Afrobeat singer Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, popularly known as Seun Kuti, has been arrested by the police for assault.

The youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti reportedly turned himself in after he was declared wanted.

This comes after he was captured in a viral video assaulting a police officer by the roadside.

He pushed, slapped and insulted the officer along a road in Lagos as captured in the video.

Nigerian news outlet Punch reports that Seun Kuti hit the vehicle of the Officer with his car causing the officer to trail his vehicle to draw his attention to the incident.

“Seun Kuti was the one that bashed the officer’s vehicle, and the policeman followed him to call his attention to it, but the musician alighted from his car and slapped the policeman as seen in the trending video. However, the officer reported the incident at the Police Command in Ikeja,” Punch cited a source.

An order was released for his arrest on Saturday. He got arrested on Monday and is currently in police custody.
