Monday Declared Holiday
The Ministry of Interior has announced Monday, April 24 as a Public Holiday across the country.
The holiday is an extension of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday which falls on Saturday.
A statement from the Ministry explained, “In view of the fact that 22nd April, 2023 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 24th April, 2023 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.
Eid-ul-Fitr is an annual festival of feasting that marks the end of the 30 days of fasting observed by Muslims as part of their five pillars.
This year, the fast is expected to end on April 21 with the festival taking place on April 22.
