NPP Retaliates NDC Arrest Petition
The National Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to arrest two officials of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, the two officials- former President John Dramani Mahama and National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia- have engaged in treasonable comments capable of disrupting peace.
He said their conducts are contrary to Section 180 and 207 of the Criminal and Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
“Former President John Dramani Mahama, without regard to his stature as a statesman, proudly touted across various platforms the revolutionary root of the NDC and their unparalleled capacity when it comes to unleashing violence for political gain.”
He also referenced Mr Mahama’s “boot-for-boot” and “do-or-die” comments.
Nana B continued, “On the part of Asiedu Nketia, he has reportedly threatened fire and brimstone to ensure the victory of the NDC in the 2024 General Election. He has disclosed that the election will be bloody and that his party is willing and ready to sacrifice lives to ensure victory in 2024.”
He pointed out that the influence of the two officials portends a ‘great danger” to the peace and stability of the country.
He, therefore, wants them arrested and prosecuted.

NDC Petition
His petition came a day after a lawyer of the NDC, Abraham Amaliba, petitioned the CID to arrest the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong over an “utterly reckless and treasonable” comment he made on April 8 in the Eastern region.
Bryan is quoted to have said, “NDC party will collapse. If the NDC dares to use threats, violence and foolishness in the 2024 election, we will let them know we have the men. We will show them that we have the men. We have the men![He screamed to emphasize]. It will never happen that we, the NPP, will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC. It will never happen! We will make sure NPP remains in government at all costs.”
In the petition dated April 11, the NDC referenced the alleged role played by Bryan in the disturbances that characterised the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election in 2019 to buttress its point that he was capable of carrying out the threat.
“Your petitioner wishes to remind you of Bryan Acheampong’s unilateral and illegal deployment of NPP hoodlums garbed in National Security Operatives uniforms to assault Hon Sam Dzata George, innocent electorates and maimed some NDC supporters in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Bye-election.
“Your petitioner says that given the infamous and unenviable track record of Hon Bryan Acheampong in organising NPP hoodlums to unleash violence on innocent Ghanaians, his statement on the 8th day of April 2023, borders on National Security threats and democracy and should not be taken lightly.”
