Kamala Harris Set For Trips To Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia

The vice President of the United States of America (USA), Kamala Harris, will later this month visit Ghana and two other African states.

This was announced by her Office in a press statement on Monday.

Harris will be accompanied by her husband, Douglas Emhof,f during the trips which are scheduled from March 25 to April 2.

Apart from Ghana, she will visit Tanzania and Zambia during which she will meet President Nana Akufo-Addo, President Samia Hassan and President Hakainde Hichilema.

Her visit to the African states, the White House said, will build on the recent U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit that President Biden hosted in Washington in December 2022.

“The trip will strengthen the United States’ partnerships throughout Africa and advance our shared efforts on security and economic prosperity.”

Conversations with heads of the three states will centre on regional and global priorities, including a shared commitment to democracy, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, food security, and the effects of Russia’s unprovoked war in Ukraine, according to the White House. 

Her objective is also fixed on advancing efforts to expand access to the digital economy, support climate adaptation and resilience, and strengthen business ties and investment, including through innovation, entrepreneurship, and the economic empowerment of women.

Last year, President Biden hosted all African leaders in Washington, DC to a summit that focused on shared values to foster new economic engagement; advance peace, security, and good governance; Reinforce commitment to democracy, human rights, and civil society; and strengthening regional and global health security.

The summit also promoted food security; responded to the climate crisis; amplified diaspora ties; and promoted education and youth leadership.
