January Inflation Drops To 53.6%
The Consumer Price Inflation for January 2023 has dropped to 53.6% from the 54.1% recorded in December 2022.
This was communicated by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The current inflation rate was driven by furnishing, housing, Household equipment; housing, electricity, gas, water and others; transport; personal care social protection and miscellaneous service; food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Food inflation in January 2023 was 61.0%, up from 59.7% recorded in December 2022.
Non-food inflation, however, decreased to 47.9% from the 49.9% recorded in December 2022.
On the other hand, locally produced items recorded an inflation rate of 50.0%, whereas inflation for imported items was 62.5%.
The Eastern Region recorded the highest level of inflation in the country.
Regionally, the Central region recorded the highest food inflation rate at 73.3%.
