“We Are Grateful God”; Reactions To Christian Atsu’s Survival
Ghanaians are unable to hold back their joy and gratitude to God after the discovery of footballer Christian Atsu alive and safe from the Turkey earthquake rubble.
Many Ghanaians took to social media on Monday to say a prayer for the player following reports that he was among victims trapped by the rubbles from the 7.8 magnitude tremor that hit some cities in Turkey.
Footballer Asamoah Gyan tweeted, ““OH GOD. Plsssssssss”
Journalist Juliet Bawuah tweeted, ““God please”.
Also,“say a prayer for Christian Atsu” took over the top spot of Twitter trends.
President Akufo-Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama joined the social media campaign calling on the public to pray for the player.
On Tuesday morning, it was confirmed that he had been found alive and taken to a hospital.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu posted on social media that the Ghanaian player had been pulled out alive.
“Is he okay?”, Ghanaian sports journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo asked in the comment section and he replied “Yes”.
In an interview, Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashitey-Odunton said the President of the Ghanaian Community in Turkey had confirmed the player has been found.
The news has been welcomed by Ghanaians with praises and thanks to God.
Juliet Bawuah posted on social media, “Joy comes in the morning. We are grateful God. Christian Atsu we are with you”.
Actress Lydia Forson reacted, “Thank you God for the life of Christian Atsu. Thank you for this miracle. Let’s continue praying for the many that are still trapped and can’t be found.”

Efforts are still underway to rescue other victims from the wreckage.
So far, 4,800 people have been confirmed dead.
Atsu currently plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor.
