God Is The Maker Of Kings; Otumfuo Tells Alan

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has asserted that the establishment of rulers over nations, empires, and other positions lies in the hands of God.

He made the statement during a visit to the Manhyia Palace by an aspirant of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

The politician was accompanied by some party supporters, former appointees and MPs on Monday, January 30, 2022.

Alan was at the palace to inform the King about his bid to contest in his party’s Presidential Primaries later this year and if possible, contest in the nation’s Presidential election in 2024.

Alan resigned as the Minister for Trade and Industry on January 5.

Before the King, Alan outlined some achievements he has chalked as a Minister.

“As the Minister for Trade and Industry, I put in place a lot of measures which will be realised in the near future. Due to the fact that most of the country’s industries were in the capital, I fashioned an initiative so that industrialisation would be evened across the country. Since this was put into action over four years ago, 296 factories have been established in partnership with private individuals. 47 of them are in the Ashanti Region.”

“We now assemble cars in Ghana. Six vehicle-producing industries have their plants in Ghana currently. Aside from that,

He also took credit for the successful selection and establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat in Accra- Ghana’s capital.

According to him, he thought it necessary to inform the King about his presidential bid and receive his blessings- the reason for his visit.

In reaction to Alan’s submission, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II indicated that almost all the aspirants in the NPP’s flagbearership bid will seek his blessings, possibly for his support just as he (Alan) has done, however, the maker of Kings is God.

“God is the maker of Kings. Leave your bid to him”, he said.

He, however, said he will support him with prayers.

Aside from Alan, former Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto; Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko; the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; a former Presidential Spokesperson and General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyepong; a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey; a former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh; and a former Minister of State, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku have all showed interest in flagbearer position.

Nominations will open for the contestants on a yet-to-be-announced date by the NPP.
