A/R: ECG Routine Maintenance Causing Water Shortage – GWCL
The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr Ebenezer Padi Narh has revealed that the recent Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) power routine maintenance is the main cause of water shortage in the region.
He emphasized that ECG is trying to resolve the challenges confronting the company for the GWCL to get a full energy complement to operate.
In an interview with Opemsuo FM on Nkwantananso with Agudey, he said that the ECG cannot provide the same level of electricity that the GWCL can do to support the system.
Mr Padi Narh gave an assurance to the public to stay calm since the company has collaborated with ECG engineers working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem to enable the GWCL to resume its full operations and provide the region with uninterrupted service.
He stated the ECG confronted the GWCL concerning immediate maintenance but both companies have one regulator which is PURC in their operations.
The PRO narrated that management in the company is always looking for alternative sources to solve problems anytime ECG starts their maintenance but the use of solar or planet will not help the company in any way since the capacity of their machines is huge and cannot rely on solar power.
Mr Ebenezer Padi Narh disclosed that during the Christmas festive season, a lot of people used water for their daily activities so the demand was too high.
He advised the public to store more water for future use to avoid scarcity of water when the GWCL faces challenges and is unable to provide water or in a situation when the ECG is unable to provide energy for the water supply.
The PRO educated the public on the use of shower and water closets since it has two nodes smaller and big to operate.
