GPRTU: Spare Parts Dealers Lied; There’s No Price Reduction

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has challenged the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association to produce prices of its goods to prove its price reduction claims.

In an interview on Nkantananso Show on Opemsuo radio, the spokesperson of the Union said the submission of the Association is false.

Last week, the transport union refused to reduce transport fares citing an increase in the prices of spare parts despite a reduction in fuel prices.

Following that, the spare parts dealers held a press conference debunking the high-cost allegation by the Union.

“They are now attributing their failure to reduce prices of transport fares to high prices of spare parts. It is against this background that we are holding this press conference to let the Ghanaian public know that what they are saying is not true”.

The Association said it had reduced prices as part of its tradition ahead of Christmas festivities and was also complying with the directive of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to reduce prices of goods in line with the appreciation of the cedi.

But Speaking with the interim show host on Opemsuo radio on Monday, the GPRTU said they still buy goods at the same price they use to.

He further challenged the Association to publish their old and new prices just as they have done.

“It’s not true spare parts dealers have reduced prices of goods. We have challenged them to publish their prices just as we have done. We buy spare parts at the same high prices we used to purchase them. Lubricant price has not been reduced.”
