1.5 Million Vulnerable Ghanaians To Benefit From LEAP Next Week
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has announced it will begin the disbursement of social cash grants to the poorest households in Ghana next week.
This falls under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme marking the 77th and 78th cycle which will take place from September 26 to September 30, 2022.
This is set to benefit some 344, 389 households which constitute over 1.5 million people, the Ministry said.
“Given the joint cycle’s payment (77th & 78th), all beneficiary households will be paid double the regular bi-monthly cash grant. One eligible member household will receive double GHc64.00. Two eligible members will receive double GHc76.00. Then three eligible members will receive double GHc88.00. Finally, a household of four or more eligible members will receive double 106”, the Ministry said.
LEAP is a social cash transfer programme for the poorest households in Ghana with the goal of reducing poverty by smoothing consumption and promoting human capital development, according to the MoGCSP.
The MoGCSP explained that the amount of money households benefiting from the programme receive depends on the number of eligible members in a household.
Persons eligible for the LEAP programme include Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC); elderly (aged 65 and above) without support; persons with severe disabilities who cannot work; poor pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.
Beneficiaries are paid through e-zwich.
