Chief And His Brother Arrested Over Illegal Mining
The Chief of Sefwi Elubo in the Western North region, Nana Anini Baffour, and his brother, Kwadwo Affi have been arrested by the police for allegedly engaging in illegal mining.
They were arrested on Friday September 16, 2022.
According to the police, the suspects were undertaking “galamsey” in Elubo township.
Their arrest, the police said, followed an investigation into a video that circulated on social media featuring illegal mining in some compound houses of the town.
“Investigations have so far discovered dug-out pits from the compound leading to the bedroom of the chief’s brother. Four other deep dug-put pits have been discovered in the same vicinity”.
A police investigation uncovered that the chief, his brother, and six others who are at large are behind the illegal mining activities.
The six other persons are being pursued.
