ECG Threatens To Disconnect Kejetia After Cheque Bounce

Engineer David Asamoah, Ashanti Region Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, has warned that his outfit shall not hesitate to disconnect the Kumasi City Market (Kejetia) if their cheque bounces again.

According to him, an earlier cheque issued by the managers of the Kejetia Market as part payment of their accumulated debts was rejected by the Ghana Commercial Bank. But after confronting the management, they issued another cheque, and therefore they will go ahead and disconnect them if it fails to clear for the second time.

It must be recalled that the electricity supply to Kejetia was disconnected following their over 5 million Cedis debt and reconnected after payment agreement negotiations were reached with the ECG.

He says the market currently owes ECG over 3 million Cedis to which the cheque was issued but got bounced in the end.

He explained the ECG had earlier advised against the one-meter policy for all shops in the market but their recommendation was rejected by the managers of the market.

Eng. Asamoah indicated that the leadership of the Kejetia Traders Association has officially petitioned the ECG demanding meters for all shops of which his outfit has agreed to do so.
