Menzgold Customers Petition Attorney General, Parliament Over EOCO Report

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold has petitioned the Attorney General and Parliament to take a second look at a petition submitted to it especially now that Economic and Organised Crime Office is having difficulties in gathering evidence against Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah.

The customers believe if the two institutions work together customers will be paid.

The Director General of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, COP Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah is on record to have highlighted difficulties faced by the state in prosecuting the CEO of the gold dealership firm.

Spokesperson for the customers, Frederick Forson indicated that his outfit is not surprised by the revelation.

He insists that it is time for the government to step in and pay their locked-up capital.

Mr. Forson revealed that about 183 people have died because of this. He believes the government’s delay in taking action with respect to paying the customers has amounted to nothing.

NAM 1 is facing 63 counts of money laundering, stealing and taking deposits without authority.

He had pleaded not guilty to all the initial charges levelled against him by the State.

Nana Appiah Mensah was initially charged with abetment of crime, defrauding by false pretences, carrying on a deposit-taking business without a licence, sale of minerals without a licence, unlawful deposit-taking, and money laundering.

He has reportedly taken various sums of money, totalling GH¢1.6 billion, from customers.
