Price Of Bread To Go Up Any Moment From Now-President Disclosed
The President of Flour millers Association in the Ashanti region Madam Comfort Akotua, has indicated that the market price tagged on flour by flour milling companies has imposed an untold hardship on their business as their cost of bread production at the moment has gone up.
According to her, a bag of flour which was sold to them by flour millers at the cost of GHc320has now increased to GH 480, adding that within the space of one month prices of flour has witnessed an increment of more than five times.
These, she underlined, have affected most players since the majority are currently running at a loss, hence their decision to increase the prices of bread and all other pastries.
Madam Comfort says bakers fear any delay in increasing their product will collapse their businesses.
Apart from flour, prices of sugar, liquefied petroleum gas, firewood, milk, butter plus other essentials needed for the baking of bread have gone up, cautioning that if the government does not intervene, several players in the baking industry will quit the business which needs to end.
Meanwhile, bread retailers complain of low sales when prices are increased.
