Kumasi Council For Christian Churches To Hold Conference On National Cathedral
The Kumasi Council for Christian Churches will hold a press conference on arising matters about the construction of a National Cathedral.
The press conference will take place today, Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Power Chapel Conference hall at Asuoyeboah in the Ashanti region.
A statement from the Council tweeted by National Cathedral Ghana read “this is to invite you to the Special Press Conference by Kumasi Council for Christian Churches comprising of heads of churches and para-church organisations in the Ashanti region of Ghana”.
The purpose of the conference, it said, was to contribute to the current national conversation on the construction of the National Cathedral and declare the position of the churches in the Ashanti Region on it.
The statement was signed by the Steering committee Chairman of the Council, Benson Kantanka Osafo, and the Planning Committee Chairman, Douglas Okonah Frempong.
The decision by the incumbent government to construct a National Cathedral partly with state funds in fulfilment of President Akufo-Addo’s “promise” to God, has been met with stiff opposition from a section of Ghanaians.
A section is of the view that it is a misplaced priority while others are of the view that the Cathedral should be funded from the pocket of the President since it is a personal promise and not a state promise to God.
Additionally, the construction of the Cathedral has been hit by various allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences.
