Concentration On New Road Toll Over Existing Ones Unfortunate – TWA To Gov’t
Chairman of the Toll workers Association (TWA), Mr. Henry Dogbe has expressed his displeasure over the decision of the government to introduce a road toll on completed roads over existing toll booths that have the resources to operate.
According to him, the strategic decision of the government to introduce road tolls when the roads are completed especially Tema Motorway to recover the whole life cost of the completed infrastructure is quite unfortunate for the toll workers.
Speaking to Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantananso Show host, Agudey, the TWA Chairman explained that the government did not consult the association before taking such a decision.
He stated that the government has to reschedule the 800 workers and station them at the various booths across the country to prevent any nuisance.
“The road toll is an imperative revenue policy that cannot be underestimated because it generates a lot of revenue and creates more jobs for the people in the country”, he added.
Mr. Dogbe emphasized that the majority of Members of Parliament were against the abolishment of the road toll which indicated its relevance.
He reiterated that the members of the associations were facing a lot of challenges in their livelihoods when the government abolished the road toll. He made a passionate appeal to the government to temper justice with mercy and reinstate them to their various positions.
