Former Japan Prime Minister Confirmed Dead
The longest-serving Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe has been confirmed dead after he was shot while giving a campaign speech in Nara, a city in Japan on Friday.
The politician, now deceased, was there campaigning for a Liberal Democratic Party candidate, a member of his political party, ahead of their election on Sunday..
He died at the age of 67.
At a press conference at the hospital where Abe was admitted, a doctor noted that the deceased bled to death after doctors spent more than four hours trying to save him.
According to the doctor, Abe sustained two wounds, believed to be bullet wounds around the right side of the neck and deep enough to reach his heart, but doctors could not find bullets during surgery, it is reported
Following news of his death, tributes have been pouring in from across the world.
Theresah May, former UK Prime Minister, posted a picture of herself and Abe and described him as a statesman of the highest calibre.
“Truly heartbreaking to hear of the death of my friend Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan — killed in the most appalling of circumstances while campaigning for his political party.
“He was a statesman of the highest calibre. A dependable partner and trusted ally. A consummate host. But also the warmest and kindest of friends.
“My prayers and deepest sympathies are with his family and the people of Japan”, she said in a tweet.
David Cameron, former UK prime Minister, earlier this morning before the confirmation of Abe’s death posted, “Most alarmed to hear the terrible news from Japan this morning regarding the appalling attack on my friend and former colleague Shinzo Abe”
After the confirmation, he posted a picture of himself and Abe and described him as a thoroughly kind and decent man.
“This is devastating and truly shocking news. Shinzo Abe was a good friend personally, a strong partner to the UK, and a thoroughly kind and decent man. I enjoyed working with him. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and to the people of Japan at this very sad time”, he posted on facebook.
