The 20% Cola Will Enable Us Adjust To The Level Of Inflation In The Country – CCT-G Prez

President of Coalition for Concerned Teachers, Ghana, King Ali Awudu has claimed that the 20% Cost-Of-Living-Allowance will enable teachers to adjust to the soaring level of inflation in the country.

According to him, “the country’s level of inflation stands at 27.6% which makes it difficult to adjust to the situation. For this reason, the teacher unions are asking for a 20% COLA to the existing 7% to enable them to keep up with the situation”.

He stated that the government has delayed in payment of the Cost of Living Allowance and they can no more contain it because the situation seems to be escalating each and every day.

The CCT-G president stated that after meeting the National Labour Commission on the issue, they were given the assurance that broader stakeholder consultations shall be held and the feedback would be communicated to the teacher unions very soon which they are patiently waiting for. He however insisted that until they receive something delicious from authorities, they are not ready to return to the classroom.

King Awudu stated that the teachers are not pleased going on strike while the BECE and the WASSCE are fast approaching but they cannot go to the classroom empty stomach which makes it legitimate for them to fight for their demands because if they had to consider the two external exams then they will never get the perfect opportunity.
