Minister Urges Assemblies, Individuals To Avoid Indiscriminate Encroachment
The Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Collins Ntim has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to be diligent with building supervision while cautioning individuals to avoid indiscriminate encroachment.
According to him, the consequence of such acts is the regular flooding incidents witnessed in the country destroying lives and properties.
Speaking on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantananso show with Agudey, the Minister indicated that for this reason the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo called on the Assemblies to be more vigorous with their responsibilities especially in the supervision of building and encroachment to make sure that people do not reside in swampy and squelchy areas.
He stated that the Ministry led by Hon. Dan Botwe has engaged all mayors and educated them reviving the needfulness of taking such issues into consideration.
Hon. Collins Ntim admonished the public to refrain from purchasing lands or buildings in marshy areas, encouraging them to make their checks well before making the move as they are bearers of the consequences at the end of the day. He therefore applauded the media for the education offered to the public and the level of awareness created on the subject which has contributed in causing some changes in the discourse.
