Vormawor Tests Positive For COVID

Convenor for the Fixthecountry Movement, Oliver Barker Vormawor says he has gotten infected with COVID-19.

“Just got test results. Tested positive for covid-19”, he wrote on his Facebook page.

This comes in the wake of what seems like another wave of the pandemic in the country with rising numbers of infections.

As of June 6, 2022, the number of active cases was 452 with the Greater Accra region being the country’s hotspot.

At a presser, Dr Kuma Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), attributed the rise in Covid cases to seasonal factors, school and workplace outbreaks, social events and declining protective effects of vaccination due to low booster vaccination uptake.

“Ghana generally records an increase in respiratory tract infections at the onset of the rainy season with peas around July. There is further evidence by the current increase in influenza infections picked from existing influenza and other respiratory virus sentinel site

“There has been an increase in school and workplace-related settings due to poor compliance to safety protocols, especially the wearing of masks”, he said.

He also noted that the dominant variant in the country is the Omicron.
