85 Schools Record COVID-19
The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has revealed that some 365 students in basic schools, senior high schools and universities have been infected with COVID-19 virus.
Speaking at a press conference, the Ashanti Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang noted that the record emanates from 85 different schools in the region.
Out of the 365 cases recorded, 254 is said to have recovered with 111 active cases from 25 schools.
In an interview with Citi tv, Mr. Tenkorang said most schools have disregarded the mask-wearing protocol.
“I’ve the opportunity of visiting schools unannounced and found that within the walls of the school environment, they disregarded the protocols. The children aren’t wearing the face mask and the teachers who are supposed to supervise them do not care”, he said.
“It is important that we adhere to the protocols and guideline in the school. We know that in the schools, most of the children are not vaccinated. The vaccination did not cover most of the children in the school. Once we know this, the protocols in schools must be enforced”, he noted during the press conference.
