7 Foreigners Arrested For Cyber Crime In Ghana

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested seven foreigners suspected to be involved in Cyber crimes in Ghana.

According to EOCO, the suspects are all Nigerians.

They were arrested on September 26, 2022, when the Office conducted a swoop at a house at Manhean, Obeyeyie in the Greater Accra Region.

The swoop led to the arrest of 28 Nigerian nationals, however, after a screening exercise, 21 of them were found to be victims of human trafficking.

The seven, EOCO said, were suspected to be engaged in Prohibited Cyber Activities.

They have since been taken to court and remanded into custody.

Meanwhile, it said investigations are still ongoing.

The news which was communicated by EOCO on its Facebook page has gotten a reaction from the Society of Citizens Against Relationship Scam (SCARS), a Worldwide Non-Profit Cyber Crime Victims’ Assistance, Support, and Advocacy Organization, describing EOCO as a disgrace to global law enforcement.

The NGO sees the arrest of the suspects rather as a “miracle”.

It disclosed that it took the intervention of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to get the suspects arrested.

In the comment section, it said, “It is a miracle – but the Nigerian EFCC had to come to Ghana to get you to do anything! EOCO continues to be a disgrace to global law enforcement. Start arresting your own fraudsters and our opinion will change, and you will find you will get more support”.
