3 Remanded for Illegal Possession of Firearms

The Wa Magistrate Court has remanded three individuals who were caught openly wielding firearms and ammunition without authority in Wa in the Upper West Region.

The court presided over by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako set their reappearance date to February 18, 2026.

Arrest
They were among a group of about five people that a police patrol team came across on Monday, February 3, 2026, at Goziri, a community near Vieri, each armed with a single-barreled gun and cutlasses.

“Upon noticing the approaching police patrol team, the suspects attempted to flee the scene. However, through swift and professional action, the patrol team pursued and successfully arrested three of the suspects,” a police statement reported.

They have been identified as Yahaya Samad, aged 27, Adams Alhassan, aged 37 and Yiritang Boosi, aged 35.

From them were retrieved three single-barrel guns, three cutlasses and 23 cartridges.

Manhunt
The police say efforts have intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape to face the law.

“The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the vigilance and professionalism of the patrol team and wishes to caution the public, particularly individuals with firearms without a licence, to immediately regularise them or face decisive action from the Police.

“The command remains committed to sustaining peace and security for safer communities across the region and calls on the public for continued support and collaboration,” it stated.
