Police-Resident Clash In Gordenu Under Probe

Efforts are underway to unravel the mystery behind a confrontation between the residents of Gordenu in the Volta region and the police which claimed two lives, the Ghana Police Service has communicated.

The violence, according to the police, ensued after a patrol vehicle was involved in an accident with a motorbike.

Per a statement by the police, the residents of Gordenu which is near Hohoe set the police vehicle alight after the accident which according to a citinews publication was deemed deliberate by the residents.

CNR reports that the vehicle was chasing the motorbike, which was allegedly being ridden by a man transporting Indian hemp.

The violence claimed the lives of two while the motorbike rider- who was involved in the accident- sustained an injury, confirmed the police.


Meanwhile, 12 were arrested in connection with the violence and one Bruni pistol was retrieved.

The police in their statement said they are investigating the occurrence “including the circumstances under which the two people lost their lives.”

Calm is said to have been restored in the town.

“Security has since been deepened in Hohoe township and its surrounding communities to ensure law and order,” the police statement added.
