21-year-old Jailed for Invading Pitch During Ghana-Chad Clash

A 21-year-old man has been handed down a 100-day jail term for invading the pitch during Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Chad last week.

The judgement was delivered by the Accra District Court against Mohammed Huzeinu.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced this in a statement issued on March 24, 2025.

“Mohammed Huzeinu, 21, has been sentenced to 100 days in prison by an Accra District Court for invading the pitch during Ghana’s match against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025.”

The FA welcomed the verdict of the court, noting it would deter others.

It emphasized that Huzeinu’s actions have the potential of attracting a fine against the Association as pitch invasions are considered a serious breach of security and disrupt the smooth running of games.

“The FA has consistently urged fans to refrain from such actions, emphasising the importance of discipline and adherence to match day protocols to avoid fines and maintain Ghana’s reputation in international football.”

FIFA fines football governing bodies $10,000 for any pitch invasion during international matches.
