Venezuela To Open Embassy In Ghana

Venezuela plans to open a resident Embassy in Ghana as soon as possible, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The disclosure was made by the Venezuelan Ambassador to Ghana, resident in Abuja, H.E. Jesus Garcia, when he paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, on October 28, 2026.
Ambassador Garcia said Ghana remains the most strategic country within the sub-region due to the historical bonds of friendship that have existed between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1969.
According to him, opening a resident mission in Accra will elevate Ghana-Venezuela relations to a higher pedestal in the spirit of strategic South-South cooperation.
He also expressed Venezuela’s desire to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in potential areas of cooperation, including aviation, education, oil and gas, tourism, military, and cocoa processing.
He indicated that Venezuela has one of the biggest oil reserves in the world and cooperation with Ghana in this sphere would be mutually beneficial.
On cocoa processing, he disclosed that Venezuela has technology that can benefit Ghana in reducing losses incurred as a result of cocoa diseases.
The Ambassador further congratulated Ghana on the adoption of the Ghana-led UN General Assembly landmark resolution on March 25, 2026, officially declaring the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialised chattel enslavement as the “gravest crime against humanity.”
Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, for his part, expressed gratitude for the visit and decried the current political situation in Venezuela, expressing hope that the situation will normalise soon.
He noted that Ghana strongly believes there is more to gain from working together with like-minded countries like Venezuela, in the spirit of South-South cooperation, and cited the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a major trading initiative to boost economic development among African countries.
