Syrian Arrested at Beirut Airport With 40 kg of Cocaine From Ghana

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of a Syrian national at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after he arrived from Accra, Ghana, with approximately 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine.

The arrest was made on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following the discovery of the drugs concealed in two pieces of luggage.

In a press release dated November 1, 2026, and signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, NACOC said the suspect was apprehended as part of an ongoing operation, and efforts are underway to arrest his accomplices in Ghana.

According to the Commission, the successful apprehension resulted from a coordinated controlled delivery exercise carried out through close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.

NACOC explained that the joint operation was aimed at identifying and apprehending targets at both ends of the supply chain while gathering vital intelligence to dismantle the broader transnational criminal syndicate behind the shipment.

The Commission noted that the operation underscores the collaborative commitment of Ghana and Lebanon to disrupting international drug trafficking networks through cross-border intelligence-sharing.
