Ghana Has Recorded No Ebola Case, We Are Ready To Respond – Health Minister

Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease, Health Minister Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has assured, as he declared the country’s preparedness to detect and contain any potential case.
The Minister gave the assurance after inspecting screening and emergency response measures at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Mr Akandoh said the government had strengthened surveillance and response systems to protect the country, urging the public to remain calm.
He explained that with no specific treatment or vaccine for the current Ebola strain, early detection, contact tracing and effective containment are critical to preventing spread.
As part of the measures, he confirmed that thermal scanners have been installed at the airport to screen arriving passengers for symptoms that could indicate infection.
The Ministry is also finalising electronic health declaration forms that will require passengers travelling to Ghana to provide relevant health information before arrival.
The forms, he said, will help health officials assess travellers and identify cases requiring further investigation.
According to the Minister, an official statement on the implementation of the electronic declaration system will be issued soon, after which airlines and airport authorities will be expected to ensure compliance by passengers.
He added that the country has designated facilities for isolation and treatment should a case be detected.
“We are ready, and we are praying we don’t record any case, but if we do, we are ready to do the needful,” he stated.
The Minister emphasised strict adherence to screening protocols, noting that all arriving passengers must undergo the required procedures regardless of status.
He further disclosed that the government is expanding screening capacity at land borders as part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s defences against infectious diseases.
