A/R: Foreign Ministry to Establish Second Passport Centre at Mampong – Ablakwa

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced plans by the Ministry to establish a second Passport Application Centre (PAC) in the Ashanti Region by the first quarter of next year.

In a Facebook post after a working visit to assess the impact of the Ministry’s policy reforms on passport applicants and staff, Mr Ablakwa said the second PAC will be located in Mampong, where a facility has already been secured.

“We shall commence equipping the facility in the next few weeks,” he wrote.

The Minister explained that the Greater Accra Region currently has three PACs, and there is policy justification for an additional PAC in the second most populous region.

According to him, a second PAC in Ashanti will ease pressure on staff, enhance convenience for applicants and create jobs.

Mr Ablakwa added that the Ministry is also providing vehicles, new equipment and refurbishing old PACs across the country.

“I made time to listen to applicants share their experiences and ideas on how we can serve them better. I commended our hardworking staff for their patriotism, integrity and professionalism, which has been acknowledged by recent surveys and hailed by Ghanaians,” he said.

He noted that it is refreshing to know that Ghanaians across the country are pleased with the Ministry’s passport reforms, including the 30% reduction in application fees, the introduction of free and fast delivery, the new e-Tracking system and the historic establishment of PACs in all 16 regions of Ghana.
