Fisheries Ministry Inaugurates Five-Member Internal Audit Committee

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has inaugurated a five-member Audit Committee to strengthen internal controls, accountability and good corporate governance within the Ministry.

The Committee is mandated under the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019 (L.I. 2378) to provide oversight on internal audit functions, risk management, financial reporting, compliance and the implementation of audit recommendations.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mr. Conrad Dumbah, outlined the roles and responsibilities of the Committee and urged members to serve as an assurance and trusted partner to the Ministry by providing accurate and objective oversight.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, stressed the importance of the Committee’s work in identifying weaknesses, strengthening systems and supporting the Ministry to deliver its mandate effectively.

She urged members to discharge their responsibilities with independence, integrity and diligence, while ensuring confidentiality, declaring conflicts of interest and following up on agreed audit recommendations.

The five-member Committee is chaired by Ms. Joyce Enyonam Agbanavor, with Mr. Emmanuel Gbogr, Ms. Bernice Beauty Agudu, Mr. Eric Kwasi Baah and Mr. Benjamin Botchway serving as members.

The Committee will work with Management to promote sound financial management, accountability and effective governance across the Ministry.
