Ghana Joins International Big Cat Alliance – Ablakwa

Ghana has formally joined the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), a global initiative aimed at protecting and conserving big cat species.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed this in a Facebook post.
According to him, he presented the signed agreement and instrument of acceptance to India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, during his visit to Ghana.
The IBCA, initiated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other international partners in 2023, seeks to protect and conserve seven big cat species, including lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, pumas and cheetahs.
According to Mr Ablakwa, President John Dramani Mahama is keen to leverage the alliance to expand Ghana’s wildlife reserves, prevent the extinction of big cats, combat poaching, revive the country’s zoos and position Ghana as a premium conservation destination.
