Amoakohene Leads Planting Of 400 Royal Palm Trees at Regional Coordinating Council

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) and its environs witnessed a major greening exercise on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, as stakeholders undertook a joint tree-planting initiative.
The exercise was aimed at restoring the environment and enhancing the beauty of the regional administrative enclave.
The exercise was led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, who was joined by staff of the ARCC, officials of the Forestry Commission, and representatives from the Department of Parks and Gardens.
In all, approximately 400 Royal Palm trees (Roystonea regia) were planted within the precincts of the Coordinating Council and along adjoining areas.
According to the ARCC, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to foster environmental sustainability, improve landscape aesthetics, and promote green urban development in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region at large.
Royal Palms were selected for their ornamental value, resilience, and ability to provide shade and improve air quality, in line with the region’s climate action and beautification agenda.
Dr Amoakohene, who actively took part in the planting, emphasised the importance of collective action in protecting the environment and urged residents and institutions to embrace tree planting as a shared responsibility.
The Forestry Commission and Parks and Gardens officials also provided technical guidance to ensure proper planting and long-term maintenance of the trees.
The exercise is expected to significantly transform the outlook of the ARCC while contributing to Ghana’s national afforestation drive and efforts to combat climate change.
