Construction of Kumasi Outer Ring Road Progresses Steadily- Roads Ministry

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has reported that work on the much-anticipated Kumasi Outer Ring Road is progressing steadily under the government’s flagship Big Push Infrastructure Programme.

The 47-kilometre road, which stretches from Etia in the Ejisu Municipality to Akom in the Afigya Kwabre North Municipality, is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity around Kumasi.

The contractor has so far cleared 25 kilometres of vegetation, including tree felling and stump removal.

Ongoing works include topsoil removal, earthworks to formation level through cutting and filling, and construction of drains.

In a move to build local capacity, 15 students from tertiary institutions in the Ashanti Region pursuing Civil Engineering, Geomatic Engineering and Quantity Surveying have been engaged on the project to gain practical field experience.

Inspecting the project, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, described the Big Push Programme as unprecedented in scale, noting that it presents both challenges and valuable learning opportunities.

“Ghana has never embarked on a programme of this scale at a particular time. So, there is a lot of learning for all of us to do,” Hon. Agbodza said.

He admitted that implementing such a massive programme comes with difficulties, but urged all stakeholders to remain committed to finding practical solutions to sustain progress.
