Ghana, Italy Push for Deeper Defence Ties on Surveillance, Equipment
Ghana is seeking expanded defence cooperation with Italy in drone technology, modern equipment and technology transfer to boost aerial surveillance and national security.
The call was made by Defence Minister Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei when the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Laura Ranalli, accompanied by Defence Attaché Colonel Antonio Di Biaso, paid a courtesy call on him to discuss shared security priorities.
Hon. Adjei described the longstanding diplomatic ties between Ghana and Italy as mutually beneficial, cordial and economically significant, and commended Italy’s sustained contributions to national development.
He said structured intelligence exchanges and operational readiness on multinational security challenges have provided vital lessons that Ghana can adapt to meet its evolving defence needs.
He identified key areas for deeper collaboration, including the provision of modern defence equipment, enhanced logistics support, technology transfer, drone technology for aerial surveillance and advanced military engineering to safeguard peace and sovereignty.
He expressed optimism that both countries would forge innovative pathways for joint initiatives that elevate their shared defence architecture.
In her remarks, H.E. Ranalli congratulated Hon. Adjei on his appointment and noted that both countries enjoy resilient relations anchored on mutual trust.
She affirmed Italy’s readiness to broaden engagement across critical security sectors, with particular interest in maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and stability across the Sahel.
She assured the Minister that Italy remains fully committed to supporting regional priorities through bilateral mechanisms, multilateral forums and the broader European Union security framework.
