BoG Holds Policy Rate at 14% Amid Balanced Inflation Risks

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana has unanimously maintained the Monetary Policy Rate at 14.0 per cent.
The decision was taken at its 132nd regular meeting held from 23rd to 24th of September, 2026.
In a statement, the Committee noted the continued resilience of the domestic economy, supported by easing credit conditions and improved business and consumer sentiment, while acknowledging emerging inflationary risks from higher crude oil prices, upward adjustments in utility tariffs, and global supply chain pressures.
Commenting on the decision, Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama stated, “The balance of risks to inflation and growth remains broadly balanced.”
Headline inflation rose to 5.0 per cent in August 2026, but remains well anchored, while economic activity stayed strong, with real GDP growth of 6.0 per cent recorded in the second quarter of 2026.
The Committee also observed that the banking sector remains solvent, profitable and liquid.
It said it will continue to closely monitor developments and assess their implications for inflation and growth.
