CSA Cautions Public Against Oversharing Personal Information

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned the public against oversharing personal information online, warning that such information could be used by criminals to commit identity fraud.

In a cybersecurity education message released as part of the countdown to the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2026 – with 08 days to go – the Authority said:

“Criminals often combine publicly available information to commit identity fraud. Share only the personal information that is absolutely necessary.”

The message is part of the CSA’s public awareness drive ahead of the 2026 edition of NCSAM, which is held under the theme “Securing Ghana’s Digital Future Together.”

The Authority has consistently advised internet users to limit the personal details they share on social media and other public platforms, including full names, dates of birth, location, phone numbers, ID numbers and financial details.

According to the CSA, protecting personal information is a critical first step to staying safe online and preventing fraud, impersonation and other cybercrimes.
