81st UNGA: Mahama Condemns Gaza Killings, Says Veto Must Not Be License For Impunity
President John Dramani Mahama has condemned what he described as the human carnage in Gaza, calling on the world to stop using “diplomatic euphemisms” to veil collective punishment, enforced starvation and mass displacement.
“The veto power must never serve as a license for impunity. Sovereign equality cannot be a privilege reserved only for nations aligned with global superpowers,” Mahama said at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 24, 2026.
He questioned how many more innocent lives must be lost before the world acts with decisive moral authority, citing the blood of five-year-old Hind Rajab and more than 20,000 children killed in the conflict.
Reaffirming Ghana’s position, he said Ghana remains unwavering in its recognition of the sovereign State of Palestine and its support for a viable Two-State solution where Israel and Palestine live side-by-side in peace and with guaranteed borders.
At the same time, he condemned all acts of terrorism by Hamas and insisted that all parties must unconditionally respect international humanitarian law.
He also reiterated Ghana’s call for the immediate lifting of the decades-long economic embargo on Cuba and called for greater global response to Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
