Ahafo Region: 7 Dead, 21 Injured In Crash On Hwidiem-Acherensua Highway

Seven people have died, and 21 others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash on the Hwidiem-Acherensua Highway in the Ahafo Region.
The accident, which occurred on September 8, 2026, involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with registration number GT-9931-09 and a Kia Picanto with registration number BA-731-20.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preliminary reports indicate that the Sprinter suffered a tyre burst, lost control, somersaulted and crashed into the Kia Picanto.
Firefighters from the Hwidiem District Fire Station responded to the scene, rescued the victims and transported them to the St Elizabeth Hospital at Hwidiem for medical attention.
The Ahafo Regional Commander, ACFO II Samuel Ferdie Tetteh, later visited the injured at the hospital and wished them a speedy recovery.
