Deputy Minority Leader Returns GH¢70,000 Vetting Money

Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei has returned an amount of GH¢70,000.00 allocated to her as an advance from the Majority Chief Whip of Parliament.

In a memorandum dated September 2, 2026, addressed to the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and copied to the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Asokwa said she is returning the money.

She cited the anonymity of the source of the fund, disinterest in any financial benefit under any circumstances, to vet her own colleagues in leadership from the other side, namely Hon. Mahama Ayariga and Hon. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings, as well as the Minority Caucus’s protest and non-participation in the vetting of three Justices.

On a matter of principle, she said it was unthinkable for her to accept any gift presented by any of the judges, adding that it is also not her intention to extort any money from them.

“In lieu of the above, and also in support of the Minority Leader’s decision to return his share of the amount sent to him in that respect, I humbly return the amount of seventy thousand cedis to be sent back to the Chief Whip of the Majority Caucus in Parliament, bringing to his attention my reasons for doing so,” the memorandum stated.
