KMA Announces Elaborate Welcome Procession for Asantehene Following US Trip
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced an elaborate welcome procession for His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, ahead of his return to Kumasi on Thursday, September 3, 2026, following an important trip to the United States of America.
The announcement was made jointly by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), KMA, Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council and Kumasi Traditional Council in a press release issued on September 1, 2026.
To welcome His Majesty back home, the Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council, Kumasi Traditional Council, Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have put in place an elaborate programme to receive the Asantehene and celebrate his safe return.
Upon arrival at the Prempeh I International Airport, His Majesty will be accorded a ceremonial welcome by the security services, including a parade and the taking of the ceremonial salute.
He will thereafter proceed through some principal streets of Kumasi to greet his subjects before continuing to the Manhyia Palace.
The procession will move from Prempeh I International Airport through Krofom, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Bantama, Komfo Anokye, popularly known as Gee Roundabout, to Otumfuo Roundabout at Kejetia. From Kejetia, it will continue past Hello FM onto Prudential Bank Road, turn right towards the Central Police Station and connect to the Military Museum.
His Majesty will then proceed through the Military Museum, in front of Poku Trading, towards the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. From KMA, the procession will continue towards the Asafo Interchange, through Asafo Labour Roundabout, Amakom, WAEC and Akwatia Line, before finally arriving at Manhyia Palace where customary rites will be performed to mark and give thanks for his safe return home.
The city authorities have respectfully appealed to all residents of Kumasi and the general public to give His Majesty a warm and befitting welcome.
Schoolchildren will be stationed along the principal routes with miniature Asanteman flags to welcome the Asantehene, and residents are encouraged to cooperate with the children and other participants as they gather along the designated routes.
During his visit to the United States, His Majesty delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on the theme “Governance, Cultural Preservation, Traditional Leadership and the Enduring Connections Between Ghana and the Global African Diaspora.”
He also observed the Akwasidae festival and held a high-level engagement with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., among other important engagements.
