Boxer Ayitey Powers Freed as Court Drops Death Threat Case

Former Ghanaian boxer, Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been freed by the Dansoman Circuit Court.
It comes after the court decided to discontinue the case against him over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Ayitey Powers appeared before the court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after being remanded for one week in connection with the case.
He was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, after a video circulated on social media in which he was alleged to have threatened the life of National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
His arrest followed a call by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged comments.
