Mahama Calls For Renewed, Action-Oriented Non-Aligned Movement
President John Dramani Mahama has called for a renewed and action-oriented Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
He is urging member states to preserve strategic autonomy, uphold international law and translate declarations into practical action for the benefit of their people.
Addressing the 65th anniversary meeting in Belgrade, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the principles of positive neutrality, sovereignty, peace and the freedom of nations to determine their own destinies.
He stressed that non-alignment must not be mistaken for indifference in the face of injustice, conflict or humanitarian suffering, while calling for stronger global action to address crises in Sudan and Gaza.
President Mahama noted that the spirit that birthed the Movement 65 years ago in the same city remains relevant today, as the world faces new forms of division, conflict and inequality.
He urged NAM member states to move beyond rhetoric and ensure that collective decisions lead to concrete benefits for citizens.
“Neither East nor West, but forward together. With principle, purpose and confidence, let us renew the spirit of Belgrade and translate our collective strength into practical action for the benefits of our people,” President Mahama said.
