GNAT Invites Applications For General Secretary Position

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has invited applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians for appointment to the position of General Secretary.
According to the Association, applicants must be goal-oriented, results-driven, with good leadership qualities and enthusiasm for the role.
The General Secretary will be responsible for providing sound advice for policy formulation by the National Political Leadership and ensuring effective management and administrative systems for efficient execution of policies and decisions by translating them into programmes to deliver on the strategic objectives of the Association.
For direct entry, applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a related field from a recognised institution, must be a professional teacher and a member in good standing, and must be on the grade of Director II in the Education Service with not less than three years on the grade.
They must not be below 50 years of age, must be able to serve four years before reaching the compulsory retirement age of sixty, and must pass a competitive selection interview. A qualification in Labour Studies would be an added advantage.
For in-service entry, applicants must have availability of a vacancy in the grade of General Secretary, hold a Master’s degree in a related field, be a professional teacher and member in good standing, with a qualification in Labour Studies as an added advantage.
They must be in a senior management position or above, including Deputy General Secretary with at least one year of working experience, Head of Department with three years of experience or Assistant Head of Department or Regional Secretary with a minimum of five years of working experience.
Applicants must not be below 50 years, must be able to serve four years before compulsory retirement at 60, must have consistently good Staff Performance Appraisal ratings for three years, and must pass a competitive selection interview.
The Association said applicants must demonstrate competencies including expertise in Labour Relations, financial management, high-level negotiation skills, understanding of organisational strategy, strong communication and leadership abilities, emotional intelligence and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Applications with curriculum vitae, cover letters, vision statements, letters of recommendation from two referees, copies of transcripts and certificates should be forwarded to The Director, GIMPA Training and Consulting, P.O. Box AH 50, Achimota, Accra on or before 23rd October 2026 at exactly 4:00 pm.
