Ablakwa Demands End to Conflict and Extremism Normalisation In Africa

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for an honest introspection on the real causes of conflict on the continent.

He made the call on Friday, August 29, 2026, when he addressed the African Union Executive Council’s 26th Extraordinary Session on Conflict Resolution and Prevention in Angola.

He demanded an immediate end to the normalisation of conflict and extremism on the continent, particularly as Africa is running out of time in creating a new and transformed Africa.

“The seats of our continent cannot continue on this tragedy, where we have normalised conflicts, normalised terrorism, violent extremism, and normalised humanitarian crises. We need to take a new path,” he stated.

Mr Ablakwa urged African leaders to focus attention on the real drivers of conflict, including injustice, lack of opportunities for the youth, underdevelopment, corruption, resource exploitation, intolerance, insincerity, and serving as pawns for proxy forces.

He reminded colleague African Foreign Ministers that the recent depressing images from the avalanche of over 72,000 young Africans who breached fences to enter Ceuta in Spain should bring home the urgency of silencing the guns and the imperative to divert resources from funding conflicts to creating jobs.
