Ghana, Peru To Establish Parliamentary Friendship Association – Ahiafor Assures Ambassador

First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, has assured the Ambassador of Peru of steps to establish a Parliamentary Friendship Association between the Parliament of Ghana and its Peruvian counterpart.

The assurance came during a meeting today aimed at deepening the longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to Mr Ahiafor, the Association will promote greater legislative dialogue and exchange between Ghana and Peru.

The meeting, which centred on enhancing parliamentary, economic and agricultural cooperation, saw the First Deputy Speaker express profound gratitude to the people of Peru for including Ghana’s Parliament in the celebration of Peru’s 205th Independence Anniversary.

Beyond parliamentary cooperation, the discussions explored collaboration in technology transfer, mining expertise and agricultural knowledge exchange, specifically highlighting opportunities for Ghana to learn from Peru’s experience in fish farming, cocoa value addition and promoting cocoa consumption.

The meeting also tackled pressing regulatory issues, including the challenges of illegal mining (galamsey). Peru shared its experience in strengthening regulatory systems, while the First Deputy Speaker emphasised Ghana’s commitment to licensing small-scale miners and formalising their operations.

The discussions concluded with a mutual interest in international collaboration to combat illegal mining and a shared openness to investment in Ghana’s cocoa sector.
