Mahama Inaugurates Committee For GH¢1 Billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund aimed at supporting infrastructure and other development priorities in Bawku and surrounding districts.

The committee is chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and includes the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga; His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri, Chief of Tempane; the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga; and the Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr. Thomas Winsum Anabah.

Inaugurating the committee at the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, President Mahama said funding for the initiative had been secured, paving the way for implementation following significant improvements in the security situation in Bawku.

He explained that the fund was established after the government received the report of the Otumfuo Mediation Committee in December 2025, which renewed efforts to restore peace and development in the area.

According to the President, the prolonged conflict had disrupted public services and stalled major development projects, including the Tamli Dam project.

With relative peace returning to Bawku, President Mahama said the government will work to revive stalled projects and ensure the area receives its fair share of national development.
