GES Opens Promotion to Director II and Director I Ranks
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has invited applications from suitably qualified serving officers and teachers for promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I.
In a letter dated August 18, 2026, and signed by the Director-General, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Service said the promotion exercise is being conducted in accordance with the President’s directive on decoupling positions from ranks and with the new Scheme of Service for GES.
According to the GES, eligible officers will be considered for promotion based on eligibility requirements, professionalism, competence, performance, experience and successful completion of the prescribed assessment process.
For promotion to Director II, applicants must be serving professional teachers of the Service and must have served on the rank of Deputy Director for four years or more.
They must have a satisfactory work history, proven performance and exemplary conduct, and possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Management, Administration, Social Science or any other relevant discipline.
They must also have a satisfactory Staff Performance Appraisal Report covering last year, 2025, with an average PASS score of 70 per cent, and must pass an aptitude test to be conducted by GES and a selection interview to be conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.
For Director I, applicants must have served a minimum of four years and above on the grade of Director II, with satisfactory work history, proven performance and exemplary conduct, a 2025 appraisal report with an average PASS score of 70 per cent, and must pass both the GES aptitude test and the Public Services Commission selection interview.
On the mode of application, GES said eligible officers should complete the online application form via bit.ly or scan the QR code provided, and upload a recent passport-sized photograph, last promotion letter or appointment letter to their current grade as may apply.
All documents uploaded should be in PDF format except for the passport-sized photograph and must be clear.
